It’s summer in Europe now and during a sunny season what’s better than riding a bike? Some wind, a deserved refreshment and a lovely tour on the road.
What if your bike is a scooter? And what if people from all around the world decide to rally for four days, having fun, enjoying great tours into the local heathlands and catching up with other like-minded Vespisti? This is the “Vespa World Days”, an annual event started 11 years ago and created by the Italian Piaggio group and Piaggio Foundation, with the aim to promote, unite and coordinate all Vespa Clubs worldwide. Vespa World Days is the largest one-make scooter rally in the world.
After the 2016 edition, taken place in the lovely village of Saint-Tropez (Cote d’Azur, France), this year – from 22nd to 25th June – the German town of Celle was chosen, in Lower Saxony.
More than 4,000 models, representing 321 Vespa Clubs from 32 countries, participated in the event: Vespas of every models, colours and sizes from the origins to today. A real triumph for the two wheels evergreen Italian vehicle. Famous and trendy 70 years ago (it was founded in 1946), it’s still cool and requested nowadays, so much that they’ve never stopped the production, reaching 20 million models sold (including the new “Vespa Primavera”, “Vespa Sprint” and “GTS 150”).
Vespa parade with countless Vespas:
Why Celle? Because Germany is the second European country with the higher number of buyers and fans. For the occasion, the town of Celle was a lovely choice (Ed.), with its castle, a renaissance and baroque style, and a picturesque old town centre.
The programme was rich and entertaining with rides out, a Vespa museum, vendor areas, parades, an acrobatic show, live bands and Djs, a tombola game, a Gala dinner and fireworks.
The Vespa Museum and the official Closing Ceremony:
And if this was not enough, all riders could participate in the “Vespa Trophy“. A trophy for Vespas riding across Europe, opened to all participants who decided to reach the destination riding their Vespa scooter. By stopping by the various stores, riders was able to collect points and, at the same time, they had the opportunity to enjoy the view of all the places along the road.
